Home Sweet Home.....

At last!  We are moving into a house tomorrow (southwest part of Minneapolis).  Anyone have suggestions on which shops would provide the best price/value for things like heavy curtains (blackout ones for the bedrooms)?

  1. Oh, congrats!!!!!

For blackout curtains.....I made curtains for every bedroom in my Connecticut house with fabric from IKEA and blackout material from JoAnn's. It wasn't that expensive, especially if you use a 40% off coupon. I bought YARDS of it, and brought it home rolled onto a big tube. (My curtains were just rectangles - the height of the window, by half the width. I used two curtains per window, and sewed the rectangles to identical rectangles of blackout fabric. Right sides together, sew, clip, turn, and sew shut! You can get curtain rings with clips on them at IKEA, so I didn't even have to make a casing or add any grommets. Easy peasy.)

  2. Great idea! Except I don't have a sewing machine (or a desk to sew on)..... not yet anyway. I will make some of the curtains but I need a couple of sets for the kids rooms PRONTO so they don't wake up too early....
